Your Values Will Determine Your Level of Happiness.
The difference between being happy and unhappy often revolve around us living up to our own personal values. When you value truth and find yourself telling a lie you do not feel that happy about yourself. When you value adventure and find yourself stuck in a dead end job; chances are you are not going to be very happy.
A lot of people are taking anti depressants these days because they do not see the world around them coming close to their values.
I believe that we can become happier throughout our life as our values change and as we come more in line with our values.
If you value family life yet find yourself working 70-80 hours a week you are not living in line with your values so no matter how much money you make you will not find much happiness until you come in closer line with your core values.
God has designed us to be happy and to help us do that He has given us the Bible. Even before God gave the Ten Commandments He had put His law in the hearts of men. We naturally know the difference between right and wrong. We know the way things should be done and we know when things are just done half way.
C.S. Lewis expressed God’s values to a secular world by calling them “laws of nature.” Later he referred to God’s value system as the “tao.”
Today we are going to take a quick look at values and how they effect our happiness. I will also be putting up a values chart on My Time Church.com in the blog section for you to look over some of the many values and find which ones are the most important to you.
Discovering what you value will help you live your life in line with your values and in turn live a happier and more fulfilled life.
I want to really begin by summing everything up. Below I have listed about 100 values. Of those 100 values what are your top ten. Then from those top ten what are your top five. You might find a lot of them are alike so go through them and really seek out what it is that you value in life.
By summing it all up I mean I am going to tell you how Jesus summed up the entire Old Testament which is full of laws and commandments and values and principles, so much so that if you do not narrow you values down to what really means a lot to you you will get lost trying to make everyone else happy.
Trying to trick Jesus into giving a bad answer to a question from a religious leader; realizing that were over 600 laws and commandments in the Bible, they asked Jesus which was the greatest.
Matthew 22:36-40 BBE Master, which is the chief rule in the law? (37) And he said to him, Have love for the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. (38) This is the first and greatest rule. (39) And a second like it is this, Have love for your neighbour as for yourself. (40) On these two rules all the law and the prophets are based.
Most of us have heard this before and it does not come as any great revelation. But what it should do for you is to take a huge burden off your back and realize that if you keep the main thing the main thing, everything else will fall in line.
So here are the values that I promised you. Go through them and pick out ten then narrow those down to five and ultimately down to two. Live your life in line with those two values and you will find yourself living a much happier life indeed.
